This Sweet Peach Iced Tea is the perfect way to cool off in the heat of Summer. A pitcher of iced tea just feels like home to me. Its refreshing sweetness is like an invitation to sit back, kick your shoes off, and relax. Using the fresh peaches turned out to be a lot of work. I pureed them and cooked them down to make a reduction. It took a lot of peaches to get enough flavor, so I scrapped the idea. I spoke to a friend about it and she swears by using peach nectar instead of fresh peaches. So, to keep things simple, I decided to give it a try. It was absolutely delicious, and it didn’t taste unnatural at all. Peach nectar is sweet so I cut down on the amount of sugar I usually use. If you are unsure, just add the nectar before you add the sugar and taste as you go to achieve the best result for your taste. For extra peach flavor, I added fresh peaches to tall glasses before serving. This too keeps the peaches from breaking down too much as they sit in the pitcher. On a hot summer day, this iced tea is a real treat.
How to Make Peach Iced Tea
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
In a large, heat-proof pitcher or jug, combine the boiling water, baking soda & sugar mix well to dissolve the sugar.
Add the tea bags,
Let steep for at least 10 minutes. Remove the tea bags and add the peach nectar.
Fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water. Refrigerate until chilled. Add sliced peaches and ice to tall glasses and pour the tea over the ice and peaches to serve.
Tie the tea bags together so they are easy to remove later. Sweeten to taste: Some peach nectar is super sweet so it’s best to taste your tea before adding sugar. If you do need to add extra sweetness, be sure to stir well so it dissolves completely. Add fresh fruit to the glass, not the pitcher: This keeps the fruit from breaking down in the pitcher making a cloudy tea with mushy fruit.
